There's a Debate Tonight. God Will Be Laughing & You Should Too!

September 26, 2016

It seems as though each successive generation laments the loss of the ‘good ole days’ and shakes its collective head wondering where it went wrong as it looks at its children and grandchildren who will soon be given the reigns of society. This is news to no one: the young instinctively look to the future with optimism while the old see, in the same great unknown of tomorrow, a cause for fear and dread.

You might think I’m taking a swipe at old folks. I assure you, I am not. Old folks are right. Sometimes young people are optimistic because they don’t know any better! Experience is the best of teachers and experience tells us catastrophe is a serious word for everyone, not just the 5th grade spelling bee finalist. Bad stuff can, and regularly does happen.

Whether you are young or old, listen up. Whether you are prone to doom-and-gloom-fears or pie-in-the-sky hopes, I have a good word for you. God is laughing! Check out what the scene in heaven looks like when the powerful of this world start to throw their weight around:

Psalm 2 – New Living Translation

1 Why are the nations so angry?

Why do they waste their time with futile plans?

2 The kings of the earth prepare for battle;

the rulers plot together

against the Lord

and against his anointed one.

3 “Let us break their chains,” they cry,

“and free ourselves from slavery to God.”

4 But the one who rules in heaven laughs.

The Lord scoffs at them.

5 Then in anger he rebukes them,

terrifying them with his fierce fury.

6 For the Lord declares, “I have placed my chosen king on the throne

in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain.”

We have an election coming up. The last thing you need in your day is another political opinion, so I’m not going to give you one. What I will give you is an encouragement. Whoever wins the election in November, and any election for that matter, doesn’t really win because they get the most votes. They win because God has ordained it to be so. “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God” Rom. 13:1 ESV. So whatever the outcome, and however that jives with your personal vote, after the election throw a party! For one thing you should be glad it’s finally over! For another you know you can still go to bed at night leaving the universe in the capable hands of Almighty God.

He’s been doing this for a long time.

Everything is going exactly according to plan.

And that plan is good!
